About

Kayia Akoun, M.D. is a fellowship-trained psychiatrist with expertise in treating depression, anxiety, and trauma disorders, with therapeutic interventions including both pharmacology and elements of psychodynamic psychotherapy, MBT, DBT, and CBT.

Dr. Kayia Akoun received her Doctor of Medicine degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She completed her Psychiatry Residency Program at the University of Maryland-Sheppard Pratt. She also became a fellow at the McLean Hospital, completing the Women’s Mental Health Psychiatry Fellowship. She is a member of the American Psychiatric Association, the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry and is a licensed medical doctor through the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine, 2020-2021.

She works with clients ages 18 and older, with both daytime and evening appointments.

Due to COVID-19, only virtual appointments are being offered at this time, with in-office appointments being possible in the future.

What to Expect

Your appointment.

What You Can Expect.

All first time appointments are conducted as an one-hour consultation which will allow for Dr. Akoun to obtain a comprehensive assessment and collaborate with each individual in developing a treatment plan.

 

In some cases, the best treatment option may include referral to a more appropriate provider or treatment modality.

 

Follow up psychotherapy with medication management appointments are one hour in length.

 

Follow up medication management appointments without psychotherapy are 30 minutes in length.
